Being kind does not have to be a huge thing. I work with kindness toward others every single day and it costs me nothing but a smile, a quick word, a compliment or even a hug. The impact of kindness toward others can have a ripple effect.
I was walking out of the supermarket yesterday and a lady was walking toward me. She had beautiful purple hair. I love people who are adventurous and are not afraid to be who they are. I complimented her on her hair and told her that my hair is usually different colours or usually filled with sparkling glitter. I then said “you look absolutely beautiful”.
This lady got quite teary and expressed her gratitude of me saying that. She revealed that she had been experiencing a very bad day and really needed to hear something kind. I asked her if she needed a hug and she breathlessly responded “Oh yes”.
I gave her one of my delicious squishy hugs – you know the kind. The hug that seems to pull your whole soul back together. When I released her, she had tears in her eyes.
“Thank you. You have no idea how much I needed that”
And she is right. I had no idea. I deliberately speak from kindness every day. None of us know the shoes that another person walks in. So be kind.
It costs nothing.
